Melissa brings us back to where her passion first started. It was when she was around 5.
She would always wander in the woods at that age, and her connection with nature began then.
She experienced stillness, and it brought her a place to let go and decompress.
In her home, she could feel the disconnect, so going outside was a way to let go of things she didn’t even realize she was holding onto.
She did not know how to be in the world with family and friends, she felt like an outsider.
Dena asks how she engages with the world when it normally isn’t the go to?
Melissa says it depends on her needs, her mindsets, and the people around her.
Her favorite way to engage with the world is hypnotic meditation. This allows her to set an intention and let go of what is impacting her and on her mind.
At her young age when she went into the woods, she did not realize or understand that she was really in a meditative, trance-like state.
She was able to tune in and her senses ignited the journey where she would lose the present moment and focus on her senses.
Colleen asks Melissa to talk about her 36 modalities.
Melissa explained how she always felt like a part of her was broken and she did not know how to express how she felt.
At first, she started her journey understanding what was “wrong” with her.
She says that mental illness was a part of her upbringing in her family.
For her, she would sense, see, and notice things which made her think she was sick.
The modalities was her trying to understand herself to feel better about her having her connection and experiences that she did.
She realized nothing was wrong with her, she was able to feel sensory experiences in a different way.
Colleen asks Melissa to name a modality
Examples are hypnosis, emotional freedom technique, things like that
Dena asks how the modalities came about and how she started helping people.
Melissa says the modalities came about over 15 years, and she began to apply them to what she was doing.
She was a massage therapist at first so she applied her modalities in that.
She originally did this to understand who she was better, and hypnosis helped her understand that there is a lot more to the mind than we know
Colleen asks what other businesses she has run.
Melissa started out as a massage therapist and set up a business. She then felt burnt out. She wanted to shift gears into photography.
She brought hypnosis and aromatherapy into photography, her massage therapist tools translated into that business.
Dena asks Melissa to talk about her book.
Melissa shares how she actually didn’t even want to write a book, but she felt a calling to it. At first, she just wrote it for herself
Nudges From your Spirit is what the first book is called
This book indicated how she was able to embrace her intuitive side and how to work with your senses.
She wanted something easy to understand in terms of intuitive development.
She originally wrote the book for herself, and then when she launched the book, a lot of growth came from it.
She was asked to build a program around her book, and she got amazing feedback.
She realized how this started for her, but then she wanted to help people.
She wanted people to know that they belong, they are a part of something and that they are not alone.
Colleen asks how Melissa reads people.
Traditionally, Melissa has been called a “psychic” but she does not like the word, she likes to call herself intuitive.
She developed this intuitive nature as a little girl in nature, then as she was older she realized she could tune into someone.
All she needs is their permission and their name to read them.
She can then connect to their nervous system and layers of senses of other people.
She can pick up on blocks, obstacles, potentials, and opportunities.
She can see bigger pictures for people and their businesses.
Her intuitive knowledge as well as psychological knowledge help her read people.
Colleen asks for examples of blocks in businesses.
Melissa tells a story about a client who wanted to sell a piece of property, and Melissa could feel her system got very heavy and dense. She picked up on the sentimental value of the property as well as traumatic events on the property. With Melissa’s guidance, they talked through what the situation taught her and they did EFT tapping. The experience with Melissa resolved emotion within her system so she could rise above her emotions and see her bigger potential. She took the property, listed it, and within a short amount of time, sold it for over $250,000.
This is an example of how to lean into emotion to discover that what we are afraid of just wants to leave our experience, which will help us feel better.
Dena asks if how do you know if something is a blockage or if it is simply just a skill we need to learn?
For example, picking up the phone and calling a stranger
Melissa says to lean into a heightened emotion, such as inadequacy
Someone might have to resolve emotional reactions from a past experience, someone else might have their own internal dialogue about fear about picking up the phone
Basically, resistance is something to look into and figure out why that resistance is there
Something people can do on their own is when you feel anxiety, for example when picking up the phone, is write down everything you are feeling
Thoughts, feeling in your stomach, your muscles
Go to the beliefs, the body, and the breath
From there, do tapping
She then has the person ask when did we feel this from the ages 6-8? Because that is when our personality was in development
Identifying an event can help resolve an impactful or traumatic moment from the past
Dena asks what we can do when we come to that awareness of our past traumatic events.
Melissa says when you go back to that time, there is 1 of 3 things you did in response.
1. Observe something that unfolded, which created an internal decision
2. The event happened to the person which creates direct conflict
3. What we absorb, an unconscious choice we make, could be taking on someone else’s emotional pain
Being able to identify this can help with what to do with the event.
Melissa has people ask their body and talk to their younger age and what tools they could have had to change the situation to not be traumatic
Melissa says to say this out loud or write it down and give it an outlet
This is a great way to look at business
Dena asks what happens after certain barriers are broken down in people
Melissa says that people are better suited to follow their dreams, it manifests in many ways and very quickly
Melissa says that we can make everything sacred if we have the mindset for it
Melissa says if we make money sacred, it transforms it
Colleen asks if money and love are connected
Melissa says they are intertwined in a way that is not healthy.
If we look at money as a tool to build things, a vehicle to help bring dreams to life, and magnify what’s already there, is a great way to look at money.
Love can do the same things money can do, but they are different.
Money is what happens when we are in alignment with love, but it is not the only thing that happens.
Colleen asks about instinct vs. fear.
Oftentimes, people are afraid of taking steps in business. To separate instinct and fear, we have to acknowledge our fears.
An exercise to do is write out the fears and from there, breathe, and tune into your intuition and answer your fears. One by one, there are responses to the fear.
Dena asks about the “Divine Time” exercise
Melissa says yes, the person’s wants are more in alignment with a divine plan when we parse out ego and fear.
Colleen asks Melissa to talk about shamanism
Melissa calls herself a shamonic practitioner, but she would not consider herself a shaman.
It is about connecting to the Earth, spirit, and the intuition within you.
Melissa talks about brain waves, for example, Theta bursts
As we write, our brain waves shift into the Theta state where we are more relaxed and creative. A Theta burst is when a few brilliant ideas come to us.
Dena asks how people can get out of fear and start following their intuition and create
Melissa says to get in touch with her, go to melissacorter.com
Melissa would coach people to understand why they want to do something, what motivates them and what they want to start in their business. Everything will stem from this core desire.
Then, this will help with the fear. The core desire can be called in to keep moving forward.
She would have people figure out their self care rituals when they have doubts about themselves.
She would also put together a plan of action to integrate and embody one’s own work.
Colleen asks what she does when people don’t take action
Melissa has a tapping process she does
She takes the goal, looks for the sabotage, and a tapping recipe based on the key emotions that are connected to the goal or the fear of the failure around the goal.
